I kinda wanted to avoid calling this a vent animation, mainly because I don’t want to draw too much attention to it, but it was indeed a highly cathartic thing to work on. I’ve also seen some people apologize for making vent animations. And yeah, I can definitely see the embarrassment and shame when it comes to publicizing such raw emotions. But honestly I’ve learned that it takes BALLS to admit that you’re struggling in any way shape or form. Hell it can even be somewhat dangerous considering the way the internet works. I really don’t like when people apologize for showing basic human emotions cause it sounds so dystopian. Even when people apologize for crying in traumatic circumstances. I’m guilty of doing this too. Making art like this pretty much my way of coping with the cards that I’ve been dealt throughout my life. I’d much rather use art to cope with shit than to lash out, commit SH, eat excessively, or do much worse things.
So yeah. With the exception of completing Oppie and The Thousand Suns, August was complete ass for me. And this month in particular I dealt with a ton of blatant transphobia from both my immediate family and from outside influences. I am nearly ONE WHOLE YEAR on testosterone, however I still get misgendered and deadnamed by my family. I know I should probably be over that, but when I look like a stereotypical werewolf, my family should definitely know by now. Every time I’ve tried to speak up for myself to my family regarding my transition, I’ve been either invalidated, treated like the bad guy, or nearly physically assaulted. On top of that I still have some lingering dysphoria that rears its hideous head every now and then.
Also about the song I used. “Been a Son” by Nirvana was made with feminism in mind, and I definitely see it that way, but I feel that the song can also be viewed in a transmasc context, down to the very title. And I seriously hope that TERFs don’t end up saying bs like “I’m ruining the meaning of the song.” Honestly if any TERFs or transphobes comment bigotry on this, I will delete it or report their drivel.
