All beef sold here must meet our trading standards. But protectionists and Euro-nostalgics are now also demanding that its *production* meet the same standards - that is, on water use, noise levels, welfare etc. No country in the world has ever insisted on such a thing and, if we became the first, we wouldn't be able to sign a single trade deal.
