I know this is an excess…
To be honest - An over the top, perhaps unmusical exhibition.
Let me explain though.
Recently I downloaded an application called Drum Genius
that I found fun to use and practice with as it has a plethora
of beats in different speeds.
Amongst the many grooves in the app I tried one called “Country”
that I liked, this very same exact beat you are listening to.
Suddenly I had the urge to experiment playing some bebop lines on top- just
for fun as I noticed great county guitar players like Danny Gatton
and Glen campbell used some very similar language to the Jazz bebop greats, which greatly intrigued me.
(All my life I have been fascinated how to use chromatic notes
in a coherent way over very simple harmony,
without it sound in weird)
I decided to write some lines in 12 keys over this
driving country groove to practice as a challenge.
I chose as harmony standard major chords in blocks of 8 bars going up
in semi tones..
Perfection paralysis
I have been practicing these lines on and off for few weeks now
slowly and carefully.
I can still hear and feel parts that do not please, imperfections in the timing etc…
But now I want to move on, and leave a record of it here as I
have other delightful, gorgeous things I wish to play
and feast myself on.
Furthermore I refuse to let the quest for perfection
paralyse me. the experiment is done.
I think it works to play these kind of Bebop chromatic lines on the country beat
and just major chords.
