In May 2009 the first beaver families were released in the Knapdale Forest in the Heart of Argyll as part of a five-year trial reintroduction. This was the first ever reintroduction of a once extinct British mammal, and was co-funded by People's Trust for Endangered Species as part of our UK grants programme.
The project partners: the Scottish Wildlife Trust and Royal Zoological Society of Scotland, are observing the beavers closely to track how they prosper and how they are changing the local environment. Find out the latest at scottishbeavers.org.uk/.
