The City of Beaumont worked with the RESTORE program, the Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM), and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to complete extensive repairs, mitigate against future damages, and enhance amenities at the Beaumont Riverfront Park.
The Beaumont Riverfront Park experienced extreme wash out along the riverbank during Hurricane Harvey.
The City of Beaumont was approved for FEMA funds to return the park to pre-disaster conditions, but there were concerns that they would experience the same issues during future floods. The RESTORE program funded the installation of a new bulkhead that would help mitigate against future disaster damages.
The RESTORE program contributed $5,400,000 towards the cost to install 1,386 linear feet of steel wall bulkhead, including waler beans and battered (inclined) anchor piles and bent cap plate for the length of the wall. The RESTORE Council approved funding for this project through their Bucket 3 – Shoreline and Beach Restoration program. An additional $2,179,642 were contributed by TDEM, FEMA, and the City of Beaumont to fund the installation of the bulkhead.
