Title: Dancing Giants: The Cosmic Tango of Black Holes and Gravitational Waves
Abstract: Black holes have long captured our imagination as cosmic monsters that devour everything in their path. But these mysterious objects are more than just cosmic vacuum cleaners – they're also nature's ultimate laboratories for testing general relativity (Einstein’s theory of gravity). I will tell you about recent observations of black holes using gravitational waves, what this teaches us about nature and where the new field of gravitational wave astronomy is heading.
Biography: Béatrice Bonga is an Assistant Professor of Theoretical Physics at Radboud University in the Netherlands, where she specializes in black hole physics and gravitational wave research. Drawing on her foundational PhD training from Penn State University and her postdoctoral experience at the Perimeter Institute, she develops theoretical predictions to guide future gravitational-wave observatories, including the Einstein Telescope and LISA.
