[BTW 15kg = 33 lbs. Definitely could have put more in there]
Jaktogo (jaktogo.com ) sent me a free jacket after seeing this video where I created my own special travel jacket by tearing pockets to access the inside: youtube.com/watch?v=IScYc9altnU

Note: I'm not in China now - this footage was recorded in April.

I don't work for them, or care if they get sales, but I thought I'd make this video to thank them and show it off!

It was nice to use a jacket especially designed for this! It's just about the ugliest jacket I've ever seen in the world, so I'd never use it except for the day I was flying, but this did genuinely help me save money, by flying a no-frills airline, but still bringing well over the weight limit with me.

NO - airport security do NOT give you problems!!! I've flown with my previous jacket trick for years, and this one several times this year. It goes through the security scan and they treat it like a bag, and security don't care how many bags you have - that's the airline's problem. I fly with the cheapest airlines like Ryanair, Easyjet, and equivalents in other continents. This ALWAYS works, because it's a loophole and counts as all "on your person".

Loophole also explained in this video: youtube.com/watch?v=luUndflUCpQ (More entertaining)

One airline did call me out while boarding when it was in travel-bag mode (I have another hand luggage item, and you can't bring 2) and suggest that I might have to pay more... but when I said "No, this is a jacket!" and actually put it on, they said "Oh... OK then!"

Seriously, no security issues ;) And no, America isn't an exception. I've flown with my previous similar jacket travel hack through the states dozens of times and a bunch of airports.

I don't actually need this jacket most of the time. Everything I own in the world weighs 23kg together. However, on this leg of the trip (Taipei to Shanghai), I had a LOT of Chinese learning books with me, and several items of winter clothes I hadn't gotten rid of yet.
