Beast of Reincarnation launches in just a few days — August 4 on PC, PS5, and Xbox — and before you spend $60 (or smash that Game Pass install button), here's everything you actually need to know. This is my honest Before You Buy: real gameplay, what the early hands-on previews loved, the real caveats nobody's leading with, and a straight answer at the end — no score, just whether it's worth your money at launch.
This is Game Freak — yes, the Pokemon studio — making a dark, Sekiro-style action RPG set in a gorgeous, blight-consumed future Japan. The parry combat sounds genuinely excellent, and Koo, your wolf-dog companion, might be the best companion in years: he fights alongside you, gets stronger the better you parry, and sniffs out secrets in the world. But there are honest flags too — a story previewers called thin, tutorials buried in an optional codex, and Unreal Engine 5 performance that nobody has tested at scale because there was no public beta.
