“As graduates of Brigham Young University, statistically speaking, you will have more opportunities to lift others around you, to serve your neighbors and to influence the world for the better,” President C. Shane Reese told new graduates during BYU’s 2025 Commencement ceremonies. President Reese asked students to embrace opportunities to lift those around them, to serve neighbors and influence the world for the better. “Using your BYU education to serve will inspire greater peace and goodness in this world,” he said.
BYU Alumni association president Hillary Nielsen further inspired the new graduates to “live fully, serve joyfully, and connect purposefully. As you do, you will not only see the Lord’s hand in your life, but you will also become His hands in the lives of others.”
Speaking to more than 7.200 students earning BYU degrees, Elder Clark G. Gilbert, Commissioner of the Church Educational System of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, encouraged graduating students to let their light shine in the world, and to represent the gospel with courage, warmth and integrity.
“As you leave BYU today, have the courage to stand up and be that light to the world. Maintain your spiritual integrity even as you engage as an ambassador and peacemaker. Hold up your light that it may shine unto the world.”
