In which I attempt to recreate a hairstyle worn by Margaret Hale in North and South by Elizabeth Gaskell. Margaret wore "this" hairdo with a white silk dress and elaborate coral hairpins to have dinner at the Thornton household. When Mr Thornton sees her, this is his reaction:
"As he looked with this intention, he was struck anew with her great beauty. He had never seen her in such dress before; and yet now it appeared that such elegance of attire was so befitting her noble figure and lofty serenity of countenance that she ought to go always this apparrelled... the head bent a little forwards, so as to make a long sweeping line from the summit, where the light caught on the glossy raven hair, to the smooth ivory tip of the shoulder... Mr Thornton sighed as he took in all this with one of his sudden comprehensive glances."

Well, I'm not even going to try to pretend that this attempt reaches those hyperbolic heights of beauty but it was fun to try out the look!
