Michael Alm (ALM FAB) | Bauhaus Artist Boxes -- Woodworking @MichaelAlm | Uploaded January 2018 | Updated October 2024, 5 hours ago.
Lately, I have been experimenting with watercolor painting. I like the medium, because it's easy to set up, and start painting without a lot of fuss. The only problem is it's very messy to have out on a table, and if I put the supplies out of site, I'm less likely to use them. In this video I build a couple of watercolor organizers that are both decorative and functional. These boxes store brushes and paint tubes in the top compartment and a mixing tray, and watercolor paper in the lower compartment. They are made of red oak and walnut.
The design of these boxes is inspired by the Bauhaus design movement. The Bauhaus movement reflected the philosophy that space should be both simple and functional, and through simplicity comes beauty. I felt it appropriate to take cues from this movement when my intent in building these boxes is to both organize and beautify my space.
If you would like to see my non-Bauhaus inspired watercolors, take a look on my art instagram: @michael.alm I'm currently painting all the mammals that live in my home state of Washington. If you would like to see a video of my paintings, please let me know in the comments below.
