This game is essentially a tribute to various action/adventure games from the 16-bit era in the form of a boss rush. It features more than 20+ different bosses, with the "battle plan" of each playthrough being totally random and different (except for the final boss, which is always a fight with Neff from Altered Beast).
22 classic characters, each with their own strenghts and weaknesses.
It's an incredibly fun and addictive game designed to be enjoyed in short bursts. Part of the fun is anticipating what boss the game is going to throw next (the selection and order is always random), a playthrough vid doesn't do it justice, it's just a sample. Initially I recorded hours of footage with different characters and bosses, but then decided to keep it simple and upload just a single playthrough.
Another thing to praise is the presentation and the amount of polish it has - the intro and VS screens, the ending, everything is 100% true to that late 80s/early 90s arcade feel. Everything, down to the selection of fonts, makes it obvious that a lot of thought and work went behind it.
The only thing missing are character specific endings, but I'm not a programmer, and I can only fathom the amount of extra work required for these things.
It's interesting that Eric Lecarde's default colour palette, shown here, is the "enhanced" version from Pyron's Colour hack for Castlevania: Bloodlines.
The video shows version 2.0.0
