Kings and Generals animated historical documentary series on modern warfare the Great War and the Ottoman history during the World War I. In the opening months of World War I, the Ottoman Empire bet big—and paid in blood. After Enver Pasha’s Caucasus gamble ended in catastrophe at Sarıkamış, the empire’s eastern frontier fractured under hunger, frostbite, and disease, leaving defenses weakened and tensions soaring across Anatolia. This episode follows the ripple effects across four interconnected theaters: Persia’s strategic tug-of-war, the mounting paranoia and crackdown in Armenian-populated provinces, the dramatic siege and relief during the Battle of Van, and the Ottomans’ ambitious offensives beyond the east. From covert intelligence efforts and rapid advances toward Tabriz and Urmia, to reprisals, mass violence, and the hard choices faced by civilians caught between empires, the narrative then pivots to the wider war: the early Sinai raid aimed at the Suez Canal and the Mesopotamian struggle around Basra, Qurna, and Shaiba.
