In part 1 of this series we covered the opening stage of the Third Punic War. This involved a recap of the inter-war years where Carthage focused on internal recovery while Rome continued its external expansions. However as Carthage slowly recovered, this prompted Rome to clamp down on them to prevent the potential for any future threat the African power might pose. What followed was a lopsided strongarming of the Carthaginians to force them into ever more humiliating terms of peace. Finally, enough was enough and the Punic city stood up.
In this episode we cover the ensuing Siege of Carthage as the legions descend on Africa to take the city by force. Yet while they thought it would be a simple affair, what followed would be a brutal siege that dragged on for nearly 4 years. This would begin with a combined land and sea assault against the triple walls of Carthage.
