🇧🇷The Xingu, a tributary of the Amazon, is home to over 10,000 Indigenous people who rely on the river for survival. But in the mid-2000s, the Brazilian government was keen to develop the region. It proposed constructing the world's fourth-largest hydroelectric dam on the river, threatening to destroy the biodiversity of the Xingu River basin and deprive Indigenous communities of their rights to a sustainable future.

➔ In 2008, over 1,000 Indigenous Brazilians came together at the Xingu Alive summit in Altamira to oppose the dam’s construction. BATTLE FOR THE XINGU documents that moment—one of the largest-ever gatherings of Indigenous Brazilians—and highlights the spectacular determination of the Amazon people to protect their way of life.
