In this video I play through The Barn at Dawn, the first scenario from Battle Chronicle: Retreat from Moscow — a cooperative Napoleonic skirmish wargame set during the brutal 1812 retreat. Designed for 28mm miniatures (but easily adaptable to other scales), this scenario introduces the core mechanics of movement, survival, loot, and hard choices under pressure.
Six exhausted French stragglers must cross a 2x2 battlefield while Russian reinforcements arrive through an automated system that steadily tightens the noose. Each model represents a single man. There are no grand formations here — only individuals trying to endure freezing conditions, dwindling supplies, and a relentless enemy.
I demonstrate the turn sequence, Russian AI behaviour, reinforcement mechanics, loot and roster tracking, and how small decisions can have long-term campaign consequences. This is a cooperative tabletop wargame where tension grows not from complex rules, but from meaningful choices.
