This is my full trailer to the unproduced film Batman Triumphant, a proposed sequel to Joel Schumacher's Batman and Robin. This film, Schumacher promised, would be a return to a darker style of Batman, and would contain elements of The Dark Knight Returns.
However the studio was dissatisfied with the boxoffice takings of Batman and Robin, and they couldn't agree with Schumacher on a script for the next film. As a result, Schumacher abandoned the project.
Interestingly, though, Schumacher has expressed an interest in reviving his project in the form of a comicbook, so we still might see what his project would have been like. screenrant.com/batman-schumacher-trilogy-comics
This film went through many drafts, many possible characters, and many potential actors, so I had a bit range when making this trailer. I went largely with a later draft called Batman DarKnight (sic).
The story: Some years after the events of Batman and Robin, Bruce Wayne has retired from his life as Batman. (I never heard why, but imagine is would be after a mission gone terribly wrong.) Dick Grayson is also retired as a superhero and is studying at the Gotham City College.
However, one of the collage professors, Johnathan Crane, is using the universities resources to perfect a toxin that will be able to manipulate peoples' emotions giving them uncontrollable fear. One night, he enlists the help of a fellow scientist, Doctor Kirk Langstrom, to help him experiment with his toxin. The experiment goes wrong and Langstrom is instead mutated into the terrifying monster, Man-Bat.
Langstrom goes on a rampage, killing people in Gotham and is mistaken for Batman returned as a murderer. Hearing about the killings on the news, Bruce Wayne is forced to become Batman again and bring down Man-Bat.
Meanwhile, Johnathan Crane takes advantage of the chaos caused by Man-Bat and uses his, now perfected, fear toxin to become the supervillain Scarecrow, using his new fear gas as a weapon. At one point in the story he would fight Batman with his toxin and cause Bruce have hallucinations about a returned Joker.
