Today, March 12th, is the anniversary of the death of one Donald "Duck" Dunn. Bass player for the Stax recording studio and so much more.
Member of Booker T and the MG's, member of the Blues Brothers Band, played on a huge number of hits from the 60's and 70's like
Sam and Dave's "Hold on, I'm Comin"
Otis Reading's "Dock of the Bay"
Tom Petty's "Stop Dragging my heart around"
And many, many more!
Dylan, Clapton, Stevie Wonder, Neil Young, Rod Stewart, Jerry Lee Lewis, Muddy Waters. The list goes on and on!
Duck wasn't the original bassist for the MG's. That was Lewie Steinberg. But he made this bass line his own in later live performances.
I modified the bass line so I could play it with my busted left arm. hope you enjoy it! and to Duck, wherever you are, hope it brings you a smile.
If there is a heaven, they got one hell of a band!
I'm playing a Sterling "SUB4" bass thats been lightly modified to take the "hot" volume problem away. Also playing though an AMPEG BA-110 amp.
I know that Duck played a Fender P-Bass pretty much exclusively, but I don't have one of those yet! HA!
