This video showcases a basic SMP trap with several added options. First, all wiring is hidden from inside the cave. Once the "goodies" are found and mined, it will activate the trap.
First, a hidden redstone ore block will be put into place from the ground. This block takes a long time to mine, slowing down an escape attempt. (I could have made another block come down from the ceiling, but I was lazy)
Second, water drops from above. As long as the player is inside the waterfall, their mining speed is greatly slowed. (I could have had the water come down from the entire ceiling, absolutely preventing escape, but I was laazzyyyy!)
Third, the clock for the dispenser is activated. This will ensure a quick kill. The hallway itself is long enough to deal a good amount of damage while the player backtracks, only to find a redstone block in their way. By the time they manage to realize what's happening, they'll likely die before mining the other blocks away.
Fourth, a small, piston doorway opens up for the owner of the trap to walk in and collect the loot, as well as reset the system or make necessary adjustments.
Fifth, a secret button outside of the chamber is revealed. This button is used to reset the door, hide the redstone block, stop the waterfall, and hide the same button again. This can only be reset though, if the torch is put back into place.
The MAJOR flaw with this is the dispenser will fire constantly until it run out of ammo. I built this near a skeleton spawner for infinite arrows, but otherwise this flaw ruins the reliability of this.
In all, this could be improved significantly to ensure the death of the trapped player. However, this is nothing more than the typical SMP trap.
