You don't need to be clinching your opponent to use your knees! Long knees add one more weapon for your opponent to consider and when they land they can really damage the body. The lead knee has to be thrown very quickly, and can generate a good deal of power by switching stance.

The back knee is often disguised first by the lead leg coming up to distract the opponent. This motion of rocking into the knee technique also adds power. In the last exchange here, the boxers show how a kick can bring you to close range and a well timed knee can quickly follow.
