🔹 Basel’s rules required banks to hold $1.25 in capital for every $1 of crypto
🔹 A 1,250% risk weighting was applied to assets like Bitcoin
🔹 Last year’s revision included all permissionless blockchain assets, including stablecoins
🔹 Rules made it illogical for banks to hold crypto or use stablecoins
🔹 US and UK refused to implement the rules set for January 1
🔹 Other jurisdictions also pushing back due to conflict with pro-crypto laws like the Genius Act
🔹 Basel now considering revisions—will they take a less protectionist stance?
