Created between 1970 and 1971, this series of brief, silent 16mm short films explores the physical and emotional act of surrendering control, using the artist’s own body as a medium. In the "Fall" films, Ader repeatedly relinquishes his posture to gravity—tumbling off a California roof, riding a bicycle directly into an Amsterdam canal, or losing his grip on a tree branch. I'm Too Sad To Tell You shifts this exploration of vulnerability to an emotional landscape, presenting an unedited shot of the artist intensely weeping. Tragically, this thematic obsession with letting go, disappearing, and the limits of human control foreshadowed Ader's real-life disappearance at sea in 1975 during a transatlantic art performance titled In Search of the Miraculous.
