The first 10 Fleet of the Future cars were pilot cars, subject to extensive testing before building the production fleet. They were built in 2016, making them the oldest cars in the fleet (after the retirement of the legacy fleet). They entered revenue service in January 2018. BART specified that the first 10 cars, the pilot cars, were to be 4 D cars and 6 E cars, allowing for a full 10 car train that could be split into 2 5 car trains. The pilot cars are a bit different from most of the production cars, a couple differences include the floors and a little bit of the carbody. Here are all 10 cars seen from May 2018 to November 2024. The cars have had several modifications over the years.
