Bart Ehrman believes that, if Joseph of Arimathea had really buried Jesus, then it should have been mentioned in the earliest Christian creed. Since it’s not mentioned, he argues that this element of the story is made up. However, this is both an argument from silence, and ad hoc. It’s also quite silly to think that the owner of the tomb is so important that it should be mentioned in the foundational creed of Christianity.
