The European Commission has promised to tackle some of the biggest complaints of European lenders, which could release hundreds of billions of euros in capital and liquidity trapped by national ring-fencing.

European regulators are wary of a potential rollback of existing rules, setting the scene for global clashes over how to responsibly ease existing rules and introduce new measures to deal with emerging threats.
