Not discovered by me, but there wasn't any really good documentation on it besides a random Reddit post. Hopefully will get patched / hotfixed :)

Works with any container that you can put items in.

Step 1: Find a pouch, crate, or backpack.

Step 2: Enter trading with any merchant. Switch mode to trade.

Step 3: Sell your container to the merchant. Do not leave the trading screen.

Step 4: Switch toggle to barter. Do not leave the trading screen.

Step 5: Open the container you sold and drag anything from the merchants inventory into the container. Do not close the container or leave the trading screen.

Step 6: Drag the container into the barter screen. Add any item of value (1 gold) to buy the container back.

Step 7: Click Barter.

Step 8: Profit.
