Finding and defeating Ansur in Baldur's Gate 3 is no small feat, but if you’re ready to take on one of the game's most electrifying battles, here’s how to do it.

To find Ansur, you need to make your way to the Dragon’s Sanctum, deep below Wyrm’s Rock. If you save Duke Ravengard first, Wyrm’s Rock becomes hostile, and sneaking in becomes the best option. Head to the south, use jumps to navigate ledges, climb down vines, and eventually, you’ll reach the beach where a pipe leads to The Wyrmway. You’ll need the Gaseous Form spell to proceed through it.

Once in the Dragon’s Sanctum, you’ll face four Chambers—Insight, Justice, Courage, and Strategy—that must be completed to unlock the path to Ansur. After unlocking the Iron Gates, you'll meet Ansur, an undead dragon with a devastating health pool ranging from 400 to 600 depending on your difficulty. He's packing area-of-effect attacks that can wipe your entire party if you're not careful.

Before initiating the fight, spread your party out to avoid being hit by Ansur's massive breath attacks. Ansur also has two Water Myrmidons accompanying him, and while they’re not dangerous on their own, their water element combined with Ansur’s lightning attacks can become deadly. Plus, they can heal Ansur, so prioritize killing them early in the fight.

The biggest threat comes when Ansur starts gathering power for his Stormheart Nova attack, which can obliterate your party if you're not prepared. You’ll have two turns to protect yourself. Your best options are casting Globe of Invulnerability, attacking the Attuned Crystals scattered around the arena to gain elemental resistance, or stunning Ansur mid-flight with crowd-control spells (although this is difficult due to his Legendary Crowd-Control Resistance).

If you manage to stun Ansur while he's gathering power, you'll unlock the “Crash Landing” achievement. Timing and coordination are key to getting this rare achievement. Keep in mind that each first attack during a turn phase will trigger Ansur's Draconic Wrath, a lightning breath counterattack, so ensure that your party members aren’t too close when initiating an attack.

In Phase Two of the fight, Ansur will summon five circles around the arena that cast lightning strikes every turn. Globe of Invulnerability will protect you from these strikes as well. Continue to chip away at Ansur’s health, using high-damage spells like Eldritch Blast, Magic Missile, or Divine Smite from Paladins, while keeping an eye on positioning to avoid getting hit by his powerful area attacks.

Once Ansur is down, you can loot his body for the legendary Balduran's Giantslayer sword and pick up the Helm of Balduran for a powerful addition to your party’s equipment.
