After their nest tree blew over in January the Eagles built another nest quickly- 18 days and she laid 2 eggs and on April 1st and 3rd they hatched..3 weeks later they were gone..The tree they chose for the new nest was one they were familiar with as it was the tree they used for years to teach the fledglings how to hold on to the branch with one foots talons and grab a fish from one of the parents with the other..this always happened in July and was one of the last things the parents would teach them before the young ones left for good..I believe that a pair of squirrels -who probably did this every year at this time -were knocking the green pine cones off to get the seeds to eat. I watched them do this from the base of the tree and one almost hit me in the head..This green pine cone weighed about 8-10 pounds and I kept the one that almost hit me..I think one must have landed in the nest and killed the 3 week old eaglets...
