Baking Soda - Use to Remove Refrigerator Bad Odors
Does Baking Soda actually help with fridge smells?
Yes - we think so!
Store an opened box of baking soda in your refrigerator and one in the freezer to help eliminate odors. By replacing every few months you'll be able to help keep odors at a minimum. Try dating the box to help you remember when to replace it or you could add this routine item to your Home Maintenance Schedule if you have one.

So how does baking soda accomplish this? The scientific name for baking soda is sodium bicarbonate. This can act as a weak acid depending on what it comes in contact with. The odors in your fridge are essentially made of food particles that float around and can eventually settle into your other items stored there. By having several open boxes of baking soda in the fridge, this give those smelly particles something else to bond with. Once bonded, the odor will likely be neutralized.
When it's time to change out the box, we've got a suggestion on what to do with the old box that will also offer two other helps for your home.
