Our 2nd visit on our #summertoremember trip took us in our Winnebago Micro Mini 2100BH to Badlands National Park and the KOA at Badlands - White River just south of the park near the town of Interior, South Dakota. We drove the scenic Badlands loop scenic highway finding several different types of wildlife and hiked the popular but awesome notch trail and window trails. The notch trail was really something special. It was the first time I've done a hike that included a ladder!
Going in late June was about as hot as I'd want to visit, but it was really pretty perfect. High temperatures were around 80 degrees and being able to come back to an air-conditioned RV in our Winnebago made everything as comfy as being at home. The only couple downsides to the KOA here was that the internet was not great in the evening (no video streaming) and the pool was shut down, but that may have been because of coronavirus. Either way, it was a great spot for us and they had an old spinning playground toy that we had a ton of fun on.
On the way there from Mount Rushmore, we stopped at the Reptile Gardens near Rapid City, South Dakota. I'll tell you - the front of this building does not do it justice. It has got to be the largest collection of snakes, crocs, gators, turtles, and reptiles in the US. You can even get up close and touch the 100-year-old giant tortoises.
We are definitely going to return very soon!
