Roller Coaster Addict | Backyard Roller Coaster on Ride POV Update #5 @RollerCoasteraddict | Uploaded October 2008 | Updated October 2024, 3 hours ago.
This is update #5 of my backyard roller coaster project, I built it back in 2008 when I was 18 years old, I was the first person to create the PVC Roller Coaster since then everyone has taken my blueprints and created amazing PVC Coasters in their backyards, I have gotten tons of questions over the years and here are all the answers.

How much did it cost? ... It cost me a little near or over $100 because i sourced the wood for free :)

How do you connect the PVC pipe? ... I used a Smaller PVC Pipe inside that fits both ends together.

How did you bend the PVC pipe? ... I constructed the supports first then placed the PVC Pipe.

What size PVC pipe did you use? ... I used inch and a half "1-1/2" Sun Resistant PVC Pipe (Grey)

How long did it take to build? ... Took me 3 months, I could have finished it faster but, i was on a budget at the time so, I would purchase the PVC Pipe little by little.

How did you build the wheel assembly on the cart? ... Well, I purchased caster wheels and tried that but, It was too slow "They had no bearings" so I removed the caster wheels but, I kept the caster housing & added skateboard bearings, This increased the speed BY ALOT! Basically the cart is rolling on skateboard bearings and that's it.

How much weight can it hold? ... The heaviest person we tested on it was almost 200lbs

Is the Coaster still in operation? ... Sadly no, I originally demolished the Coaster in order to build a new one BIGGER & BETTER & i did get pretty far into that project but, We ended up moving :(
Maybe one day I will build another one :) Another first-ever creation.

How did you get the idea? ... Well, I have actually been trying to build a Backyard Roller Coaster since the early 2000s but, I could never get the track system correct ... My earlier coaster builds were just me sitting on a Skateboard riding up & down ramps I built & to keep me on track I used side railing from house roofs & that's where the problem was! I needed some track system similar to a real Roller Coaster but, Affordable ... This took me YEARS to think of ... Then one day i was watching a random video about film making and saw their camera system, They literally had their camera mounted on a cart and rolling on two PVC Pipes & the cross ties were 2x4's "Voila" finally it clicked in my head! I finally found a way to create a Backyard Roller Coaster the rest is history.

If you have any questions here is a link to my instructional video explaining exactly how i built this PVC Roller Coaster.
