Backies & Burn - A Walk That Did Not go to Plan.

The Golspie Burn, often referred to as the Big Burn, is a stream located in Sutherland. It flows through a wooded gorge known as Dunrobin Glen, situated behind the village of Golspie.

The burn flows down towards the North Sea coast, passing the north end of Golspie village, where it is crossed by the A9 road at Golspie Bridge. It is famous for a popular, scenic walking trail, often called the "Big Burn walk." This trail features a dramatic, gorge-like section with footbridges over the water, leading to a waterfall.

The burn is located near Ben Bhraggie, a prominent hill, and is in close proximity to Dunrobin Castle.

The bridge over the Golspie Burn is a listed structure in the area.

Golspie itself is a coastal village in Sutherland with a population of around 1,400 as of 2011. The name originates from Norse, meaning "gully village".

The area was heavily impacted by the Highland Clearances, which took place in the early 19th century. The nearby Ben Bhraggie is home to a monument to the 1st Duke of Sutherland, a figure central to these clearances.
