There isn't a whole lot to say about this one; as the final iteration of the Doujin Shooter, "Bachi-Gun" (which was first showcased as early as Comiket 54 / 1998), "Bachi-Gun" saw updates through Comiket 64 (2003) which mainly fixed minor issues with the color range and gameplay loop. Developed by Maoh Bancho, I actually own most of their games for my collection but can't get them to run correctly (they also released "Sonorous Sonnet" and "Super Sonorous Sonnet", "Sorceria Angel", "Sorceria Angel - Prominence Blast" and "7 Servant's Blade"), so I'm trying things here and there. I was able to get this one going with an update file from the Wayback Machine and more stability through forcing the game into a window with DxWnd. "Bachi-Gun" is also Maoh Bancho's first PC Doujin game and is a trimmed-down clone of Cave's "DoDonPachi" with the title being a play on the titles "Batsugun" and "DoDonPachi". Bachi-Gun SR is a rare Doujin game and has been out of print for decades.

So, what exactly does it mean to be a "trimmed-down" clone of DoDonPachi? It's got the basic concept of DoDonPachi down, it's just got less of nearly everything. Less graphics. Less colors. Less sound. Less gameplay. Less ships. Less speed (the ship is less agile than DDP). Less... options... (you can only toggle fullscreen or windowed and change the difficulty between Easy or Normal)? About the only thing that's not less is the difficulty (it's actually harder in spots) and the amount of music tracks (as each boss has their own themes)... but that's okay! "Bachi-Gun SR" is still a pretty neat Doujin shooter which only MSRPed for a few hundred Yen, so you got what you paid for.

You've got one ship that has a spread shot and a concentrated shot. You've got four lives and zero continues. You've got five stages and a second loop depending on the version and conditions. There's a simple power-up mechanic, bomb stock and medals you can collect. Curiously, this game does have a "grazing" mechanic which didn't appear in the original series proper (although it was incorporated in "DoDonPachi II: Bee Storm", though this was not created by the original creators of DDP), although it doesn't increase your abilities and merely serves to reward more points. The handful of power-ups available are few and far between and dying causes you to lose your power-up (your bombs are replenished). There's no plot, and a suspicious lack of bees too, lol. Jokes aside, the game looks like a DoDonPachi demake and would've been neat on 16-bit hardware.

Truth be told, I'm terrible at this game and DonPachi / DDP felt a little easier to play, but it would be cool to see someone get further than me and show the game off in its entirety. This is a video showing two of the game's levels on the first loop. You can get it at:
