Stefano Ianiro | BABY Hummingbird Fed by Mother - Belize @StefanoIaniro | Uploaded 5 years ago | Updated 3 hours ago
I found a Rufous-tailed Hummingbird nest the other day. So I got out my telephoto lens and filmed them waiting for their mother. Soon enough, she came down to feed them. Due to their fast metabolism, hummingbirds need food every 20 minutes.
Their 2-inch nests are made with lichens, mosses, plant fibres, feathers, and is held together with silk from spider webs. A perfect camouflage in the jungle.
These two nestlings still look young, so I'm hoping to get more footage of them as they grow.
Footage was taken at the Toucan Ridge Ecology and Education Society in Belize.
