In the last year, isolationism has become a salient and popular policy opinion dominating the policy conversation.
On the political right, the rise of isolationism and anti-war sentiments is a departure from the "peace through strength" motto of previous Republican administrations, including the Trump administration.
With China's rising threat and its strengthening alliance with Russia and Iran, U.S. hegemony is not only being challenged but threatened for future generations. Garrett Exner joins Dominique to discuss the historical context of American isolationism and the perils that face the United States.

Support Philos CatholicA few questions for Catholics who are anti-IsraelThe Philos Project2024-10-03 | Last October, after the outbreak of war in Israel and Gaza, anti-Jewish rhetoric on campuses and protest movements across America surged. This year, the rhetoric grew worse — as did violent attacks against Jews. Sadly, some Catholics have joined in the antisemitism.
The pretext for antisemitism today is a hatred for Israel, or anti-Zionism. Anti-Zionism is used as an excuse for Jew-hatred everywhere. So, why would Catholics on the right join progressive radicals who hate Jews, hate Christians, and hate America?
That’s really a question for the anti-Israel and antisemitic Catholics themselves, and so it is to them that we ask the following questions:
➡️ Can you define Zionism as you understand it, and maybe as you think Israelis understand it?
➡️ How is Zionism different from your understanding of nationalism?
➡️ There are over one hundred nation states that have been created since 1948 — can you explain which are legitimate or illegitimate? And what makes them so?
➡️ If you believe Israel is illegitimate, is it because it is too secular or too religious?
➡️ Is it possible to support a nation’s right to exist without supporting all of its policies?
➡️ Is it wrong for Christians to support Israel’s right to exist? If so, on what basis?
➡️ Can a Catholic who supports Israel call himself a Zionist? Isn’t it possible for a Catholic to be a Zionist without endorsing dispensationalist or other Protestant theologies?
Those are just a few questions that those who profess to speak for the Catholic Church should have no problem answering.
Catholics who despise the Jewish people are right that there’s a heresy problem, but it isn’t Christian Zionism (which isn’t actually a heresy). The real heresy here is Marcionism.
Marcionism is really the first heresy. The heresy, named after its founder Marcion, rejects the God of the Old Testament. Marcion, like his fellow Gnostics, taught that the Hebrew God was actually a devil, that Hebrew scriptures were backward, and that Jesus came to restore us to the real God, the Gnostic God.
Jesus and his ancestor and first followers came from the Chosen people who remain Chosen. Our Church recognizes Hebrew patriarchs and prophets as saints.
Last year, we helped launch the Coalition of Catholics Against Antisemitism to make Catholics aware of resurgent Jew-hatred and to do take steps to root it out the Church. We invite you to join that coalition—and we invite everyone to learn more about what the Catholic Church teaches about the Jewish people.

October 7 became the bloodiest day in Israel’s history and the deadliest day for Jews since the Holocaust.
1,139 people were killed that day, and 250 people, including 30 children, were taken as hostages. In a country with a population of less than 10 million civilians, the ratio would be equivalent to 40,000 Americans dying on 9/11 instead of 2,977 (13 times as many deaths).
What can Catholic Christians do? Of course, we are absolutely called to pray for an end to the War, for true peace, and for a Spirit of Truth to overshadow all leaders and decision makers in the region. But here, on American soil, we need to unite in support of our Jewish brothers and sisters against violent expressions of antisemitism.
To this end, we invite you to join the Coalition of Catholics Against Antisemitism (CCAA), which is a community of primarily lay Catholic leaders who are committed to combatting antisemitism in the United States and in the Church. Our members include policymakers, journalists, Catholic priests and religious, teachers, public intellectuals, and leaders from every other corner of the public and private spheres.

The prevalence of critical theory taught at universities primed a generation of students for social justice activism, and since October 7th, the Free Palestine movement has taken center stage.
Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP), a student group on campuses, has been at the center of decimating information, organizing students, and promoting violence against Jewish students across America. At Colombia University, SJP played a critical role in the months-long encampment and occupation of Hamilton Hall.
Dominique speaks with Daniel Suhr, a lawyer representing five Colombia students in a class action lawsuit against key agitators at Colombia University, including the national SJP office, Colombia’s SJP chapter, faculty, and U.S. Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ilhan Omar, and Jamaal Bowman.
The encampment on Colombia’s campus affected all students, as classes and university services were stalled due to the illegal actions of Colombia’s SJP. Anti-Jewish violence and the promotion of ideas championed by Hamas promoted the genocidal aims of the terrorist organization, fostering fear amongst the university’s Jewish population. Colombia’s SJP must be held accountable by providing justice to those affected and deterring future aggression.

For the last ten years, Philos has done this through educational trips to the region for thought leaders, professors, journalists, and young leaders.
When October 7th happened, it was a moment of clarity for us at Philos, but also for Israel, the West, and America. It became clear after watching the evil that took place on October 7th that those who hate the Jewish people also hate Christians and that war in the Near East is not separate from the West's struggle for survival.
Watch Philos Executive Director Luke Moon tell the story of Philos' founding, what's changed in the Near East and the West since 2014, and lessons he has learned after more than 35 trips to the region.

Our nation's 2024 spring semester was rife with college demonstrations, encampments, and protests that disrupted freedom of assembly, movement, and thought for Jewish students across America.
At the heart of the college social justice movement is intolerance for freedom of thought, demanding an anti-American, anti-Israel, and anti-Jewish agenda be adopted by institutions of higher education. When looking at what is happening on university campuses in America, we see young college students cheering on a revolution and the destruction of America/Israel cloaked in neo-Marxist and critical theory language.
The cult of self at the center of the U.S. social justice movement popularized by college activism is a distinct amalgamation of postmodern thought, critical theory, nihilism, and Marxism. Hussein Mansour joins Dominique to discuss the ideological roots of the growing revolutionary radicalism across the United States.

The Neo-Marxist left was quick to condemn Israel’s “genocide” in Gaza and turn on their Jewish neighbors and classmates.
While college protests took center stage and dominated the media, the conservative right in America was radicalized against the Jews, and the media failed to notice. What started with the growing popularization of isolationist foreign policy positions by media personalities like Tucker Carlson slowly evolved into Candace Owens’ “just asking questions” approach when it came to condemning Jews and Israel over its war in Gaza.
In a recent interview with Patrick Bet David, Dan Bilzerian’s overtly antisemitic ideas of Jews and Israel highlighted where many on the conservative/libertarian right now stand when it comes to this larger cultural conversation. Isaac Woodward joins Dominique to rebut Dan’s radical claims about the Jewish conspiracy and misinformation surrounding AIPAC and Israel.

At Philos, we are unafraid to have hard conversations because we want to model our beliefs: a pluralistic place where different viewpoints are freely shared and discussed. We have to lead on these topics, and Nationalism comes up often in conversation today. Nationalism is the concept that a nation's identity, comprised of more monolithic views of culture, religion, history, and traditions, is unified with state policy.
Luke recently attended a conference called National Conservatism, where Nationalism was a primary focus. Luke didn't necessarily agree with everything he heard at this conference.
In this episode, Luke shares his opinions about Nationalism and its implications for his worldview as a Christian. He is joined by fellow Philos staff members Krystal Bracy, Wendell Shelby Wallace, and Jesse Rojo to debate what this topic means for our current moment in history.

We can be complicit in the attack on our Jewish friends and neighbors, and stand idly by, or we can take a stand to oppose this perennial and rising evil. The Coalition aims to foster a deeper understanding and unity within the Church on these issues.

One of the suspects was a 19-year-old who had recently pledged his allegiance to ISIS after being radicalized on TikTok. The thwarted attack was symbolic of Islamism's rejection of Western values, and Western women.
On this week's episode of The Philos Project Podcast, Dominique is joined by Hannah Garces to discuss the clash of civilizations between the West and the Islamic world as support for Islamic fundamentalism becomes more widespread. Hannah speaks to the radicalization of Gen Z on TikTok, and the implications this will have on the elections, college campuses this fall, and the West at large.
The international attention Swift's concert cancelations garnered starkly contrasts the media's silence over the horrific massacre at the Nova Music Festival on 10/7.
