DIY Textured Plaster Art #plasterart #texturedart Timber & Tea 2023-11-15 | I hopped on the plaster art trend and I'm so glad I did! For my textured art I used a 50/50 (ish) mix of acrylpro tile adhesive (Home Depot) and art gel medium (amazon). I wanted to keep it simple and clean so I used only a 3.5" trowel (also Home Depot) for the entire thing. My plaster ended up drying a light beige colour so I decided to paint it with acrylic paint after. Ideally you would spray paint it to avoid any brush strokes but I wanted a very specific colour. I also highly recommend spraying it with a varathane finish to help protect it. Overall I was VERY happy with how the plaster and gel medium faired. My piece did not crack at all and it feels very sturdy. DIY Fluted Boho Table Timber & Tea 2023-10-09 | I found this wire spool for free on the side of the road and knew I could make something cool with it! I've been eyeing up those trendy fluted boho coffee tables but they cost an arm and a leg so thought I'd try and use this spool to make one myself! I worked on this DIY fluted coffee table just a little bit at a time, so it took a while, but I'm soo happy with the way it turned out!It ended up costing me about $200 in materials but one way I saved $$ was by buying long whole dowels (I used 3/4") and cutting them in half since apparently half-round dowels are even more expensive than a whole dowel, even though its half the amount of material! My table was 30" round x 18" high and I think I used about 11 8' x 3/4" dowels at about $8.50/dowel.I also got my table top for $5 from a garage sale, but if you're not able to find one on your local buy and sell, you can also use plywood (I recommend baltic birch or maple as they both stain nicely).Music:BeachMusician: Jeff Kaale

How to do the German Schmear- its easier than you think! Timber & Tea 2020-03-07 | I'm doing a bedroom makeover at my parents house and they have a brick wall in the room. I was going to paint the brick white but then came across the German Schmear. I thought it looked so cool and it gave the brick a really unique look, so I gave it a shot. DIY Rustic Live Edge Clock Timber & Tea 2019-01-27 | This live edge clock is one of my favourite projects yet! To make this rustic wall clock I used an old bicycle rim for the frame, an old slab of live edge maple for the face, and some clock parts I ordered off amazon (amzn.to/3f6YiJ3). This project is great for beginner-intermediate woodworkers.Click here so you don't miss a video! bit.ly/2Xe639LJOIN ME ONLINE:Facebook: facebook.com/timberandteaInstagram: instagram.com/timberandtea_Website: muskokafolk.comClock parts: amzn.to/3f6YiJ3***********Music: bensound.comThe first thing I did was go on facebook to spread the word that I was on the look out for an old bike!Once I got the bike, I pushed a nail into the tire valve to release the air and then worked my way through til all that was left was the rim.Turns out the best way to get the tire off is to grab a flathead screwdriver, digit underneath the lip and drag it all the way around.Next I took out all of the screws that were holding the spokes in place.Once I got it unassembled, I used 600 grit sandpaper and gave the whole rim a light sand.Then I cleaned it with a de-greaser. I used Acetone, but you could also use paint thinner or dish soap. I spray painted mine black, but you could do it any colour or just leave it raw aluminum.Next I cut my wood inlay. I used a piece if live edge cherry that had laying in the garage. I cut it a couple inches wider than my bike rim.I decided to hand scrape my piece to keep some of the character, but you could also plane it, or sand it with a belt or orbital sander.Once I got it sanded down to my liking I traced on the rim and cut it using my bandsaw. Since I traced the largest part of the rim, I cut just inside the lines. You might have to tweek the edges a tiny bit by sanding or trimming to make sure you get a perfect fit. Remember that it’s better to cut it too big and have to trim it down than to cut it too small and have to re make it.Next I measured the center of my wood piece and traced on the battery box. I routered out a spot for it to sit in but since this is only the second time I’ve used a router, I practiced a few times first! You just want it deep enough so that the threaded rod that attaches the battery box to the hands will reach through.Then I drilled a hole in the center of my routered box all the way through from the back to the front.Then I stained and varathaned my pieces. Be caeful if you are varathaning the bark. If there are thick globs of white varathane, they may not dry crystal clear. Just dab any really thick parts with a q tip or paper towel. Now its time to assemble your piece. Your wood piece should fit snug in your rim. To secure it, I drilled 2 holes in either end and used ½” screws. Your length and width are going to vary depending on the dimensions of your mirror and the style you’re going for. Cut all ends on a 45 degree angle. I recommend cutting your parallel pieces at the same time to ensure they are the exact same length. Make sure you flip your board before cutting the other end, so that the angles go in towards each other.Once I got my boards cut, I used my dato blade on the table saw to make a grove where the mirror will sit. The dato should be done on all 4 boards, on the shortest side of each piece of wood. My dato was 3/8th” wide and a ¼” deep. Next I put in my pocket holes.I ended up re-making 2 of the side pieces. There should be 4 sets of pocket holes. I did 2 in each end of 2 of my boards.Once it was all put together I sanded it with 150 grit paper on my orbital sander and then painted it. I wanted mine distressed, so I gave the edges a quick sand and went over the exposed wood with some stain.To put it back together, I laid my mirror in place and then placed a layer of cardboard and held them in place with glazier points.I used d-hooks and hanging wire to hang it.#mirrorframe #diymirrorframe #howtomakeamirrorframe #diy #mirror

Then I cut my pieces for the cross bars, BUT I cut them a couple inches longer than what I want them to be because I’m going to shape the edges later so they fit snug with the dowels.Once they are cut, I found the center and where the ends will be.Iam going to cut a notch in the cross bars, so that they link together, so I’m marking the width of the boards on each and then cutting a notch exactly halfway through the board using my scroll saw. You could also use a band saw or hand saw for this part. Make sure you cut just INSODE the lines for a nice snug fit.Then to round the edges I used a 1 ¼” forstner bit in the drill press. The forstner bit should be the same size at your dowelling used for the legs. You could also use a hole saw bit on your drill of you don’t have a drill press. Next I cut the dowelling. The length of your dowell will differ depending on what height you want your stand. Once cut, I sanded the edges.Then to mark the holes where the dowell pins are going to go, I used a piece of cardstock and marked the location on it and then poked holes through the cardstock so all of my holes could be marked the exact same.I wanted my crossbars 5” down from the top, so I measured out 5” and then made my marks on each piece. Then I drilled my holes with a 3/16th bit, which is the same width as your dowell pins. I marked my depth with tape on my drill so I knew how deep to go. Your holes should be exacly half the length of your dowel pins. Looking back, I would recommend using a drill press for this part as well to ensure your holes are perfectly straight.Squeeze some wood glue in the holes on either end and push your dowels in. Then line them up with the holes on your legs and attach the two pieces. Repeat this process on the other side and then the other legs. BUT make sure the notches on the cross bars are opposite so that they fit together. One should be facing up, one should be facing down.Lock your legs together, and admire your work! Two pieces from the bottom are cut on 45”s straight across.I used a 1x8 cut at 28” as a backing for my tree. I placed my boards on upside down and numbered them from top to bottom for easy assembly and then I marked where the backing, bottom ceter triangle, and base needed to be trimmed, and used the scroll saw to make it all a perfect fit.I layed my tree down again, good side down and layed my backing in place. One by one I marked each boards location on my backing so it was easy to know where to put my screws. Then I screwed it together, whitewashed it by adding water to white paint, and then glued the base in place.For these Christmas blocks, we need 14 pieces at 3”. I made an easy jig to cut these pieces by clamping a board to the saw.I gave the edges a quick sand and then painted all sides white.I used a sanding block to distress the edges and then used a craftsmart paint pen to complete the letters.For my mini trees, I used three pieces of scrap wood for each tree that I had laying around and glued them together. You can used as few or as many pieces for this as you’d like. Once that was dry, I used carbon paper to draw on my tree and then used a scroll saw to cut it out.I whitewashed the fronts and then I glued the trees to the stand using wood glue.To make this snowflake round, I used my scroll saw to cut out a circle and sanded the edges.Then I used a piece of scrap for my snowflake. I used carbon paper to draw it on and then cut it out with my scroll saw. I painted the circle using a whitewash and then painted the snowflake grey.I used wood glue to adhere the snowflake to the circle.Now for my favourite piece, a giant wood star!You;ll need 10 pieces cut at 2 ft, and then angles cut at each end.First, turn your meiter saw to 18’ and turn your wood so that it is perpendicular to your body. I made a little jig to help keep my board perfectly straight and then made all my 18’ cuts.Then turned my saw to 36” and turn my wood back the other way and made all of my 36” cuts.Next I used my pocket hole jig and put two holes in one end of each piece as shown.Then I used 1” pocket hole screws to assemble it!#christmas #christmasdecorations #diychristmasdecorations #diychristmasprojects #holidaydecor

I recommend using baltic birch plywood as it absorbs stain much nicer than regular plywood. My favourite method of making a perfect circle is to use a scrap piece if wood or cardboard and drill a hole at either end, half the diameter of the circle apart. Tac one end and drag your pencil around in the other.To cut my circle out I clamped it down and used a jig saw to cut it. You could also use a scroll saw or router for this part.I used my disc sander to smooth out the edges but you could also use regular sand paper or a palm or orbital sander.I stained it with Classic Grey stain by Minwax and then let it dry.Next I drew out my letters. I printed mine out, then used carbon paper to trace them on to the plywood, and then used a scroll saw to cut them out.I gave the edges a quick sand and then painted them.Once they were dry I used LePage wood glue to adhere them to the circle.#namesign #customnamesign #diynamesign

You could also bring the tape up the sides to make it easier to pull out since the paper will stick to the concrete. I used quickcrete which you can get for 4 buck from home depot and then all you have to do is add water. Make sure you wear a mask for this part since the power is very bad for your lungs.Mix it until it is the consistency of oatmeal, then pour some in the bottom of the bucket, place the sonotube in, tape down, and fill up around the edges.Give it a good shake to prevent pinholes and then let it dry.I cut the sonotube and then pulled out the top half.Then I pulled out the planter and pealed out the rest of the sonotube.I just left the remains of the paper since you wouldn’t see it once the planter was filled. You could also use a skillsaw for this.I also need a 1x3 1/8ths” for the front panel cut at 24 5/8ths with 45 degree cuts at either end.Now I’m going to assemble my shelves using wood glue and 1 ½ 18 guage air nails. I used the pieces I cut for the braces as spacers as I was putting it together.I filled my nail holes with wood puddy and then gave the shelf a good sand with the orbital sander using 120 grit paper.I used a wood conditioner to give my shelves a nicer finish and prevent blotching and then I stained them using Early American stain by minwax.To put up the braces I used a stud finder and marked their location on the wall. Then I placed my braces where I wanted my shelves to sit and marked the location of the studs.I predrilled my holes to prevent splitting. The screws I had weren’t long enough so I countersunk my holes and used 2” screws. If you don’t countersink your holes, I recommend 3” screws.I placed my brace on the wall where I wanted my shelves to sit and screwed in one end of the brace.
