The negative and positive rods create ~1.6V when in the water, to power the oscillator primary coil. The coil is made from 30AWG, 24+24 turns, created on the pills bottle itself. The secondary coil, made from 24 turns of 30AWG then outputs the oscillations via a diode. How quickly the oscillator fires, is controlled by the tuning variable pot, for overall tuning, with the 'keyboard keys' selecting the notes.

The solar wavers are available everywhere it seems, here in the USA they're especially noted for being on sale at Dollar Tree (everything is $1). The wavers come apart readily. The coil can be tricky but using heat on the plastic underneath the coil makes things easier. Each waver has 1 coil, 1 solar cell, a circuit board and a neo or ceramic magnet... very useful things for the cost.

To clarify, the circuit being used is from one of the shown waving flowers from the dollar store. The coils are also from them. The 2nd rotor has had 2 small magnets placed over each original tiny magnet. The additional magnetism allowed the cogged rotor to lock on to the powered rotor at a further distance than planned.

The need for only 1 1/2hrs of good light means the circuit and especially capacitors don't have to be subjected to strong sunlight. Such conditions can dry out the capacitors. That is also why the solar cells are placed on the top of the design. The motor can be otherwise shaded.

The circuit used here is a simple reed switch + coil. A coil is connected directly to one power input and its other input runs via the reed switch. When the reed closes from a magnet passing, the coil emits its magnetic field to push the rotor around. A diode or LED can sit across the coil, connected opposite to the power input, to stop the reed switch being damaged by any electrical arcing.Get it Working - 1947 Firestone Air Chief RadioSlider27322018-12-25 | This 4-A-31 "The Rhapsody" Firestone radio had sat unused in a corner of our house for a decade. Flying weight is 88g/3.1oz
This one uses the parts from 2x mini quadcopters, my own firmware and some very bad foam. Quadcopters are JJRC H67 'Santa Quad' types. The end result has far too much power, but has been a blast to build and fly.
Here is the zip file containing the firmware. It's based on the popular quadcopter tuned settings called Silverware by Silverxx. dropbox.com/s/qw1kbr5jpeicwys/Styles.zip There are several different types of firmware in the zip file. All are within the 'Styles' folder. My idea being to defeat the gyro of the quadcopter receiver and enable flying styles similar to those of toygrade aircraft from 10 years ago. Differential thrust, actuators, ailerons, rudder, single motor etc. It should be considered as Experimental and no warranty whatsoever is implied or granted if anyone uses it on their own builds. Bodmer's library: github.com/Bodmer/TFT_HX8357Can earbud magnets be used on R/C planes ?Slider27322018-09-15 | An interesting question from Ronie Cris Estimada...can earbud magnets be used as the magnet for an actuator coil ?
The answer is surprisingly yes. Not only are they the right size and strength, they are cheaply available.
Such actuator systems are best used with planes weighing less than 1oz, or 28g. Effectiveness is perfectly fine ! I used to use crushed up bits of magnets from old hard drives, but now will use earbud magnets :)
The firmware used is a derivation of the Silverware quadcopter code. It is being developed for rudder, elevator, ailerons and other 'classic' control systems. The F-22 weighs 21.5g Used to be sold by Interactive Toy Cencepts around 2008-10 and used to have a 27MHz FM receiver. It now has a circuitboard from a JJRC H67 'Santa quad', with my modified Silverware code...to make it fly like the original system.
'Santa' quads cost about $20 and the conversion simply entails the flashing of the firmware, then connection of the airplane motors to the 2 rear motor positions on the circuitboard. Motors can be mounted facing forwards or backwards. 2 motors and props from the quadcopter can be used, to power an aircraft weighing up to approx 2oz.
The Differential Thrust code used on this F-22 can be found in my RCGroups Blog post here: rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?3128052-Differential-thrust-firmware-for-Santa-quads-%21Tesla s 645576 - new improved shiny tabletop emulationSlider27322018-08-15 | The schematic has been corrected for the transmission side of this tiny coiled circuit. Original distances achieved were approx 6" at 5V, now it's 12" at 3V, same ~50mA current usage.
