It can be shown that the Carolina Bays have a mathematically elliptical geometry, and since ellipses are conic sections, this implies that the bays originated as inclined conical cavities. This episode describes some of the comments that I get about my videos and how the azimuths or headings are calculated by fitting ellipses to the Carolina Bays using the least squares method.
