On this week's REWIND, hang out with AWS’s Principal Evangelist, Chris Melissinos, as he tackles the library of Atari's second cartridge based console, the GIGANTIC Atari 5200 SuperSystem! This system, released in 1982, was originally designed to compete with the Mattel Intellivision and then the ColecoVision with a focus on more accurate arcade ports.
Leveraging the architecture of Atari's 8-bit Atari 400 computer made it easier for developers to leverage their knowledge in porting to the 5200, but the limitations of the 5200 made direct ports difficult if not impossible.
The 5200 would be a short lived console, just over 2 years in market, and was ridiculed for it's power supply, weird controller, and it's MASSIVE size, but still has some great games that are worth revisiting.
