I know Elfen Lied has gotten mixed reception over the years for being blood and boobs paired with pretentious story telling, but in my opinion, I actually like how its themes of abuse and isolation are conveyed through how much you care for these characters. A prime example of how these themes can hit home is the opening theme, Lilium.
