The television series "The Chosen" has quickly become one of the most popular religious film projects of all time. The errors associated with it are numerous both in terms of commission and omission. Dallas Jenkins and his star (the Catholic) Jonathan Roumie are tag-teaming deceivers and devils of the basest sort. While much can be said about the specifics of this show and its influence for compromise, few people get at the root problem of the very medium and avenue of their deception which would also apply to others who have tried to sanctify Hollywood methods for their own gain, no matter how noble their intention.

In the mid 1950's the late A.W. Tozer wrote an essay entitled "The Menace of the Religious Movie" in which he undercuts the root of the problem; the very concept of religious movies and play acting used as a means of spreading the gospel. Evaluating the medium itself, its origins, its ramifications and its lack of scriptural support, Tozer carefully examines what many have simply taken to be good because of familiarity or scriptural disregard. This essay applies to The Chosen in spades, but also applies to other religious movies you may have perhaps considered much better and safer options. How few have truly evaluated this concept to this degree?
