Pillars of Eternity and Avowed take place in different regions of the same world called Eora. Both games are made by Obsidian Entertainment, and both are set in the same universe and share the same lore. It was first created as an original universe for Obsidian's game Pillars of Eternity. Later we revisited Eora in Pillars of Eternity 2 Deadfire, and now in Avowed. The writing style of the original Pillars of Eternity, while no completely grimdark and not a stranger to occasional; humor, took its topics seriously and often got philosophical. It wasn't shy of being sincere and exploring its world and themes pretty seriously. The same couldn't be said about Avowed, unfortunately. The game is ridden with Marvel-like quips, cut-ins here and there, snarky comments from companions and generally mediocre writing that could sometimes be referred to as a millennial writing.
