This animation illustrates measurements of the diameter of the electron trajectory in the classic J. J. Thomson e/m experiment. Because of the relatively large distance between the scale and the actual electron beam, such measurements are prone to parallax error. The animation also shows how the measurement procedure overcomes parallax issues.
