On July 23, 1983, Air Canada Flight 143 made one of the most incredible emergency landings in aviation history.

A simple fuel conversion mistake between pounds and kilograms left the Boeing 767 with far less fuel than required. At 41,000 feet, both engines failed, turning the aircraft into a powerless glider carrying 69 people.

Captain Robert Pearson and First Officer Maurice Quintal successfully guided the jet to a safe landing at the former Royal Canadian Air Force base in Gimli, Manitoba. The aircraft touched down on a runway that was being used for a motorsports event, narrowly avoiding disaster.

The remarkable landing saved every person on board and earned the aircraft the nickname "The Gimli Glider," becoming one of the greatest examples of skill and teamwork in aviation history.
