Sainthood and Sanctuary is a sorrowful song of betrayal and the extreme measures one would take just for the promise of safety. In the year 2220, the song's narrator has given into the false promises of his city's ruling cult in the hopes of finding safety in their temple. Instead of salvation, he finds himself trapped and constantly spied upon as his desire for safety in righteousness leaves him alone once again. Musically, this one is a weird rock/acoustic/alternative fusion that ends up being kind of an experiment in strange 3/4 drum lines. It's dark, yet soft, and serves to hint towards the more unique styles to come in the rest of the album.

Safe from an early grave
But death feels closer still
When does the human soul cave
To find itself a kill
Promised a crown of glory
Fought for an equal stand
But fortune would never find me
In this blood red land
Why have I given my heart
I've fallen so far
Because now the future scares me
Why am I broken and small
I'd sacrifice all
For sainthood and sanctuary
I would give anything
To know I'm not alone
I'm tired of suffering
When I once had a home
After I sought protection
The saviors broke my bones
Lost streets that I remember
Now lie here alone
Mantras of greater purpose
End up left behind
The faithful don't deserve this
Desperate and blind
Fallen graces
Familiar faces
Never look like mine
Rings of fire
And holy water
Never turn back time
Why do I
Have many questions
Intel I can't find
Still unsure of
My mind's selection
To trust my fallen kind

By grace, we rise.
In the story of Elden Ring, no character is more important than Marika herself. The self-made goddess of their world, she sealed away death itself out of grief for her persecuted origins, and forged the Elden Ring itself. After centuries of ruling and meddling from shadowy outer gods, she shatters the ring to pave the way for something new. Broken and nearly lifeless, she calls a song of grace and of need to those she once exiled: the tarnished, in hopes that one could stand on her shoulders and right the mistakes of her world.
This song represents the moment before the game begins, and takes a deep dive into the broken mindset of the voice that calls to us and drives us to repair The Lands Between.
Lyrics:
[verse]
Weary I watched the cracks
Spiral and form
Split by the weaknesses
Fading and worn
How could I look away
Even in faith
Spun towards insanity
Watching it break
How did I lose it all
Building so strong
Rigged as a symphony
Wistful in song
Culled from a golden grave
Scattered and tarnished and wronged
[chorus]
But I am no coward
My actions have shown
Im struggling broken
Like crumbling stone
And every past burden
I shoulder alone
By grace
By grace
Forged strong in the fire
I stood through the pain
Through centuries grieving
The scars still remain
My dreams lay here shattered
Come death as it may
By grace
By grace
[verse]
You think you were the first
To see the cracks?
But I felt each in my heart
As it turned black
Feeling it ripped apart
What have I done
Caged by the rules I made
Leaving with none
Here at the precipice
Ending the age
Framed by a golden mind
Paired and uncaged
Even my clearest hours
War with his plight
In my own aftermath
Stripped of my right
[chorus]
But I am no coward
My actions have shown
Im struggling broken
Like crumbling stone
And every past burden
I shoulder alone
By grace
By grace
Forged strong in the fire
I stood through the pain
Through centuries grieving
The scars still remain
My dreams lay here shattered
Come death as it may
By grace
By grace
[bridge]
To gods those that hear me
The monsters up high
I stake my rejection
And bide my aids time
Oh, can you forgive me
For what I have become
The mother of curses
My children of one
But I have no power
My lineage burned
A crucified image
While every soul yearns
To those I rejected
I pray youll return
By Grace
By Grace
[chorus]
But I am no coward
My actions have shown
Im struggling broken
Like crumbling stone
And every past burden
I shoulder alone
By grace
By grace
Forged strong in the fire
I stood through the pain
Through centuries grieving
The scars still remain
My dreams lay here shattered
Come death as it may
By grace
