Avatar: The Last Airbender Season 2 review and reaction — Netflix’s live-action Avatar returns with a stronger season, better dialogue, an amazing Toph, and some great moments… but it still does not live up to the original animated series.
In this video, I’m giving my review and reaction to Avatar: The Last Airbender Season 2 on Netflix. Season 2 continues Aang, Katara, and Sokka’s journey into the Earth Kingdom as the Gaang searches for an earthbending teacher and moves deeper into the war against the Fire Nation. Netflix also confirms this season introduces Toph Beifong, played by Miya Cech, one of the most beloved characters from the original animated series.
Overall, I enjoyed this season.
I think Season 2 improves on Season 1 in several important ways. The dialogue is better, the character dynamics feel more natural, and the show does a stronger job bringing certain storylines, relationships, and emotional threads together. There are moments where this live-action version finally starts to feel more confident in what it wants to be.
And then there is Toph.
Toph is easily one of the best parts of Season 2. Her attitude, earthbending style, confidence, humor, and energy bring something the show desperately needed. Miya Cech had a huge challenge stepping into one of the most iconic characters in the entire Avatar universe, and Toph’s addition gives the Gaang a much-needed spark. Netflix describes Toph as a blind earthbending prodigy whose unique fighting style and seismic strength make her a major addition to the live-action series.
But the season is still uneven.
Sometimes it feels rushed, like certain emotional beats or story arcs do not get enough room to breathe. Other times, it feels like the season takes too long to get going, which creates a weird pacing issue where some parts feel compressed and others feel stretched out.
That is one of the biggest things holding this season back for me.
The original animated Avatar: The Last Airbender is one of the greatest shows ever made. The pacing, humor, emotion, world-building, character development, and spiritual depth all worked together in a way that felt effortless. Netflix’s version is improving, and I enjoyed this season, but it still does not fully capture the magic of the original material.
So for me, Season 2 is good.
It is better in some major areas.
Toph is amazing.
But it is still flawed, and the original still wins.
