triggered an avalanche, but could luckily ride out of it early on.
I didn't deploy, but avalanche airbags give confidence:

the spray of a backside turn covers the cam at 0:26, roughly when the snow started to silently crumble around me. there is a cut at 0:28 to when I am safely on the side of the couloir, can clean the lens and watch the rest of the snow flow past...
you never know when you will trigger an avalanche. existing tracks are no guarantee.

You can then understand the complex system by simulating it in a computer. As an example, you need three simple rules to simulate swarming behavior:
- Move in the same direction as your neighbor
- Stay close to your neighbor, but avoid collisions
If you think this is no big deal, think again. No one saw this coming. And to this day no one really knows why this is the way things are. Its as if reality is giving us a big help in understanding how stuff works. Like the miracle I mentioned before, that equations mirror the workings of the universe.
