Welcome to the first episode of Airshow IP — Air Show In Person.
In this episode, we get an up-close walkaround of the legendary AV-8B Harrier at the MCAS Cherry Point Air Show with Maj. Eric “Porky” Scheibe, Executive Officer of VMA-223, the Great American Bulldogs.
The AV-8B Harrier is one of the most iconic aircraft in Marine Corps aviation history, known for its vertical/short takeoff and landing capability and its unique role supporting Marines from ships, expeditionary bases, and forward operating locations. DVIDS notes that the AV-8B was the first vertical/short takeoff and landing aircraft in Marine Corps history, and the aircraft is scheduled for its sundown ceremony in June 2026.
Join us on the flight line as Porky walks us around the aircraft, shares insight from the Harrier community, and gives us a closer look at a jet that has earned a special place in Marine aviation.
