The stonefish is extremely venomous, dangerous, and can be fatal to humans.
When stationary they are often difficult which is why they are so dangerous.
They come in various colours and are often covered with algae
and other marine life providing excellent camouflage.
They often look like a rock or a lump of coral.
They are related to the scorpionfish and lionfish.
According to the Australian museum The reef stonefish
is the most venomous fish in the world.
The dorsal fin has 13 stout spines which can inject
an extremely poisonous venom.
Most poisonings occur because people accidentally
stand on one or unknowingly touch one.
You will be injected with a highy toxic venom and experience
excruciating, gut wrenching pain.
You have 15 minutes to get treatment which is not pleasant.
You have to pour extremely hot water, the maximum you can stand
without being scolded over the wound to slow the poison down.
The lesson here is, don't touch anything in the water unless you are
absolutely sure you know what it is.
