The debut Q6 offers a glimpse into what could be a breakthrough vehicle in the modern off-road market. With a ride height increased by 160 mm (6.3 in) and a track widening of 250 mm (9.8 in), its bold stance is immediately striking.
After an initial test drive, Audi CEO Gernot Döllner remarked, “The Q6 e-tron offroad concept is a fresh take on quattro. It demonstrates the immense potential of our all-electric vehicle platform today. This car is ready to break new ground, and we’re excited to see how our customers respond to such an emotionally engaging design.”
While traditional portal axles typically boost wheel torque by 20 to 30 percent, Audi’s innovative design increases it by 50 percent. This adjustment limits the top speed to 175 km/h (108 mph)—a compromise that suits off-road performance—and allows the vehicle to conquer slopes of up to 45 degrees.
The project began with a simple yet powerful question: How can we create an electric vehicle that truly moves people? The answer was to develop four bespoke portal axles, integrated directly into the front and rear wheel hub assemblies, which required some modifications to the suspension links. This engineering feat raises the 10-second peak combined wheel torque to 13,400 Nm (9,883 lb ft)—an increase of 4,400 Nm (3,245 lb ft)—embodying the spirit of Vorsprung durch Technik on every terrain.
Built on the new Premium Platform Electric (PPE), the Audi Q6 e-tron not only forms the basis for this concept but also sets a new standard for electric vehicles. It excels in driving dynamics and charging performance while establishing new benchmarks for range and efficiency, reinforcing Audi’s commitment to innovation both on and off the road.
